The name comes from Govardhan lila where Krishna as Giriraji accepted the offerings of Vrajavasis and was still asking for more and more offerings by calling out “Aniyor…Aniyor” “Give me more… give me more” and was only satisfied when Tulasi leaf was offered to him. 

To which he exclaimed “Triptosmi…Triptosmi” “Now I am satisfied… now I am satisfied”

Govardhan is Krishna (Bhagavan) and also a devotee (Bhakta). He is known as haridasa varya the best of servants of Krishna. He is expert in serving Krishna in all sort of ways, with cooling water, fruits, flowers, provides cooling caves for Krishna’s rest and playground for Krishna and gopas to play, Grass for the cows, Minerals which Gopas use to decorate Krishna’s face, Several Kundas for bathing and various pastimes (incld Radha kund and Shyama Kunda).
